Alur kingdom has been applauded for championing the fight
against teenage pregnancy.
For the past five years the kingdom has been implementing a
project Girls get equal funded by Plan International targeting
girls and maintaining in school.
According to Robert Odiya the LC III chairperson Alwi Sub county
the project was so instrumental in encouraging girls to stay In
school.
“ the number of young girls attending antinetal in Alwi has
greatly reduced compered to the past years after COVID 19” he
said.
Odiya attributed the reduction to the partnership of the kingdom
with other partners and their commitment in following these
young girls and encouraging parents to take their girls to
school.

Omitto Robert Steen the District Chairperson Pakwach district
said the partnership of Alur kingdom with MTN and other partners
has greatly impacted on the lives of the people in greater
Nebbi.
“with these interventions we have seen a drop in teenage
pregnancy with Pakwach registering 29% from over 40%” he added .
Sylvia Mulinde the CEO MTN Uganda urged the leaders and members
of the communities to give girls opportunities to grow and
protect them from teenage pregnancy and early marriage.
“ create more opportunities for women in the communities to
create more courageous women who can stand on their own” she
said
She noted that these girls if maintained in school can become
important people in future . She appluded the kingdom for the
giving opportunity for young girls to be in school.
Vincent Ochaya Orach the Deputy Prime Minister Alur kingdom said
that girls are still less privileged and a lot still needs to be
done if the percentage is to reduce.
He said there is reduction in teenage pregnancy but a lot still
needs to be done.
