Mtn Uganda in partnership with ATC and Alur kingdom has powered
Alwi health center III.
Speaking during the lunch and handover of the the 30 solar
panels, the LC III Robert Odiya said that the coming of the
solar panel is timely as facility has been have limited power
which was not reliable especially in the martenity ward.
He appreciated the Alur kingdom for their partnership with MTN
Uganda and the intervention considering Alwi health center as a
beneficiary of this years Y’ello care.
Dorothy Kabaganda the chief executive officer ATC said that the
30 Solar panels will support the health center with lighting and
all the power needs of the facilities.
She said that ATC will continue to maintain it and noted that
this is less expensive since there is no power bills
She added that the 15 kva of power 12 to 16 hours of lighting
plus water pump that will be able to fill the tank and there
will be no problem of power. It will be able to stay for 25
years an the batteries will be able to last for at least 6-7
years.
According to Madhawun Harriet the health educator pakwach
district who represented the District health officer at the
event applied MTN for choosing Alwi health center which was
grappling with water and power shortage especially at the
maternity word.
She said the intervention has come in timely since there was
generally no budget line for connecting the health center to
power now due to limited resources and it was also not among the
priority areas.
Madhawun noted that the care takers have also been cooking under
the tree and with this intervention the kitchen will be
completed and there will be constant water supply since the Alwi
dry corridor was not also not reliable.

Vincent ochaya orach the executive director Alur kingdom
appreciated MTN for the intervention since Alwi health center
was in dare need for these intervention.
He said that this is a mile stone in the fight against maternal
deaths.
Y’ello care activities at alwi health center III included the
completion of the kitchen and installing water hervesting
tanks. Other activities included tree planting, blood donation
among others.
Y’ello Care is MTN Uganda’s annual employee volunteerism
initiative that focuses on supporting communities, particularly
in areas with limited digital access and connectivity. The 2025
edition, themed “Connecting at the Roots – Connecting
Communities through Digital Tools,” runs from June 1 to June 21,
2025.
