Some of the chiefs in Alur Kingdom have been accused of fuelling the continuous land wrangles within the kingdom.

The speaker of the chiefs Rwoth Jepther Urom said that it is unfortunate that some of the chiefs have been involved in the sale of land and also fuelling land wrangles in the kingdom.

“We had agreed that land in the kingdom should not be sold but leased with the knowledge of the chiefs but instead the chiefs are helping in the sale of land which is not appropriate” he added.

He added that the chiefs involved in these wrangles will not be spared.

However, Rwoth Charles Umbidi of Kwonga chiefdom said that there is contradiction in ownership of land.  

He said the elders said that land belongs to individuals who have the right to sell it without knowledge of the chiefs and this makes it difficult for chiefs to control the sale of land.

The King of Alur, His Royal Majesty Phillip Olarker Rauni III noted that the issue of land has become serious with Atyak also facing the challenge.

He urged the Prime Minister to take up the mantle and settle the pending land issues before it gets out of hand.
