Following the attack on a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) detach in Zeu Sub- County last Friday Cooperation for the Development of Congo (CODECO), the king of Alur His Royal Majesty Philip Olarker Rauni III has condemned the act and called for calm among the people.

He said that the Alur people are peaceful and loyal and urged anyone who has information leading to the arrest t of these people should give it to the police.

“This is the second time this is happening and most of these people are youths, therefore I call all young people to get involve in productive activities and should not allow to be deceived in to joining rebel activities” he said

He said that, as cultural leaders they are willing to work with the government and see that these people are all arrested and brought to book.

Five suspected Congolese rebels were killed in Zombo District last week unspecified number of assailants suspected to be members of Cooperation for the Development of Congo (CODECO), armed with guns, machetes, bows and arrows attacked the UPDF detach in the wee hours of Friday morning but were repulsed.

The men reportedly killed one and injured four UPDF soldiers using machetes. Five of the rebels were gunned down and a gun recovered. The UPDF solders are pursuing them in the jungles

On Monday this week the Commander Land Forces, Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, visited the detach to thank the soldiers for the good work they are doing and to encourage them to continue protecting the country from such attacks
