All is set for the 12th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty Philip Olarker Rauni III the King of Alur expected to take place on the 18th November at Atyak seed secondary school in Zombo district. The occasion will be graced by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief quest.
The theme of the celebration is “Ending child marriage and teenage pregnancy in Alur Kingdom”. According to the Executive Director Mr.Vincent Ochaya Orach, the theme has again future due to the fact that the vice has persistent and more partners have also come in to support the kingdom.
Last year during the coronation anniversary, the King in partnership with Plan International launched a campaign on ending girl early and teenage pregnancy in the kingdom.
“With the help of our partners Like Plan International, MEMPROW, UNFA,and Actionaid among others, we have managed to train the spouses of the chiefs who are now championing the fight against child marriage and teenage pregnancies in their chiefdoms” he said .
Mr. Ochaya notes that the kingdom has also created a fire place what’s up group which the youths are using to learn and appreciate their culture.
He added that in the next five years the kingdom will focus on empowering the youths and teenage mothers through commercial agriculture and supporting those who are willing to go back to school or join vocational institution.
Meanwhile Since 2020, MTN Uganda has been supporting the coronation activities with various activities including, sponsoring Kopu p’ Ubimo and the coronation anniversary. And this year as part of the buildup activities, MTN Uganda had a successful bicycle race.
Phillip Odoi the MTN Regional marketing Manager said that the bicycle race was one the events while they look forward to supporting three health centers in greater Nebbi the health facilities include Alwi, Pawong and Zeu health centers as part of their social cooperate responsibility for the people of Alur.
